About IHL

1. Introduction

The University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, one of Pakistan’s leading private universities, proudly announces the establishment of the Institute of Hospitality Leadership (IHL), a pioneering initiative designed to revolutionize hospitality education in Pakistan and the wider region.

Developed in collaboration with the Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH), UK, leading global academic institutions, and prominent national and international hospitality partners, IHL will serve as a center of excellence in hospitality education, research, innovation, and industry engagement.

The institute aims to prepare the next generation of hospitality leaders with global competencies, equipping them to excel in a competitive, rapidly evolving international marketplace.

2. Rationale and Context

The global hospitality and tourism industry contributes over 10% of global GDP and employs more than 300 million people worldwide. According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the sector is projected to grow by 5.8% annually, outpacing global GDP growth and creating millions of new jobs by 2030.

In Pakistan, the tourism and hospitality sector has significant untapped potential. Around two dozen five/four star luxury hotels are in pre-opening stage. However, there is currently no dedicated, internationally aligned hospitality leadership institute offering a combination of academic rigor, practical training, and global exposure.

IHL is being established to fill this gap, positioning Pakistan as a talent hub for the global hospitality ecosystem and directly contributing to the country’s economic growth and international image.

3. Vision

To transform individuals and organizations for hospitality leadership by fostering worldclass education, experiential learning, and global industry partnerships.

4. Mission

To develop competence equipped with leadership, innovation, and operational expertise to transform the future of hospitality and tourism.

5. Objectives

  1.  Deliver internationally benchmarked degree programs in hospitality and tourism management.
  2. Build strategic partnerships with global hospitality brands, culinary institutes, and tourism boards.
  3. Provide hands-on training through purpose-built facilities, internships, and live projects.
